2 Tynely New Houses, Chathill, NE67 5DX

An enchanting stone-built cottage dating from the 1800s, surrounded by open Northumberland countryside yet remarkably well placed for both the coast and the A1.

With two double bedrooms, a wood-burning stove, beautiful reclaimed parquet flooring, private parking, a useful workshop and a substantial separate garden, this is a genuine escape to the country without feeling disconnected from the world beyond.

There is something wonderfully uncomplicated about life at Tynely New Houses.

Part of an original terrace of period stone cottages, the house sits within a peaceful rural landscape where countryside views form the backdrop to everyday life.

Yet this is not a location that requires complete isolation: The A1 is within easy reach for travelling north or south, while the Northumberland coastline is also close enough to make days beside the sea part of the lifestyle.

Mains electricity, Private water supply, Shared Septic Tank, Solid fuel heating system.

For anyone dreaming of a character cottage, a fire burning on a winter evening and a garden large enough to really enjoy the outdoors, there is a great deal to fall for here.

A Northumberland Cottage A small garden creates a traditional approach to the front of the house, before the entrance door opens into a useful internal hallway.

From here, step into the sitting room and the character of the cottage immediately reveals itself.

High ceilings give the room an unexpected sense of space, while a large window frames beautiful views across the surrounding countryside and brings plenty of natural light inside.

Underfoot is a particularly lovely reclaimed parquet floor, its warmth and character entirely in keeping with the age of the property. And then there is the wood-burning stove.

It creates a natural focal point and gives the room exactly the atmosphere one would hope for from a rural cottage - somewhere to return to after a long walk, light the fire and settle in for the evening.

The house has double-glazed windows, helping to combine its traditional appearance with the practicalities of modern living.

The Cottage Kitchen From the sitting room, the accommodation continues into a generously proportioned kitchen with enough space to accommodate a dining table and chairs.

Shaker-style cabinetry in white gives the room a timeless cottage feel, complemented by subtle traditional handles, wood-effect work surfaces and neutral splashback tiling.

There is a good arrangement of both wall and base storage together with glazed display cabinetry, an integrated dishwasher, space for a freestanding cooker with extractor above and plumbing for a washing machine.

A single-bowl stainless-steel sink completes the practical specification. Slate-grey floor tiling provides a hard-wearing finish underfoot, while two windows bring natural light into the room.

A rear door leads directly outside, making this an especially practical space for country living.

There is plenty of room here for the kitchen table - somewhere for breakfast before heading out for the day, or for friends to gather while dinner is being prepared.

Two Double Bedrooms Upstairs, the cottage provides two genuine double bedrooms, each retaining the simple charm of the original house.

The principal bedroom is a particularly comfortable double with excellent ceiling height and its own walk-in cupboard, currently used as a walk-in wardrobe.

A window once again makes the countryside part of the room, with lovely rural views beyond.

The second bedroom also comfortably accommodates a double bed and enjoys further countryside views from its rear-facing window.

An original cast-iron fireplace remains as a decorative feature, introducing another authentic reminder of the history of the cottage.

Traditional cottage-style internal doors throughout the first floor complement the character of the bedrooms beautifully.

Heating upstairs can be provided through the central heating system connected to the solid-fuel wood burner, with the additional convenience of electric panel heaters.

This gives the flexibility to warm individual rooms without necessarily running the main heating system. A Charming Bathroom The bathroom continues the relaxed cottage aesthetic.

A painted vanity unit with white basin provides useful storage, while an L-shaped bath incorporates a shower above and glazed shower screen.

White brick-style tiling with contrasting grey grout keeps the room fresh and simple, complemented by practical vinyl flooring and a chrome heated towel rail.

A window provides natural light and ventilation, while another cottage-style door ties the room neatly into the rest of the first-floor accommodation.

Parking, Workshop & Outside Space To the rear of the cottage are two private parking spaces, providing a valuable practical feature for a rural home. Beyond is a useful detached outbuilding.

Rather than a conventional garage, this is accessed via a pedestrian door and has its own window, making it particularly well suited as a workshop or substantial storage space.

Whether for bicycles, tools, gardening equipment, surfboards or the paraphernalia that naturally comes with country and coastal life, it is an extremely useful addition.

A Garden With a View One of the more unusual and appealing aspects of Tynely New Houses is its additional garden.

Separate from the immediate curtilage of the cottage, this substantial plot is reached by walking along the track beyond the terrace.

Each of the cottages has its own garden in this area, understood to have originally served as allotment-style ground. For the right buyer, it is a wonderful bonus.

Surrounded by countryside and enjoying lovely open views, it offers a generous piece of outdoor space with enormous potential for someone who enjoys gardening and growing produce, or simply wants somewhere to spend time outside.

Its separation from the house is part of its character and should be understood as such: This is not a conventional rear garden immediately outside the kitchen door, but rather an additional destination in its own right - your own substantial piece of garden surrounded by the Northumberland landscape.

Country Life, Coast Within Reach The setting is central to the appeal of this cottage.

Tynely New Houses offers that increasingly sought-after combination of rural surroundings without complete isolation.

Open countryside and far-reaching views create the sense of escape, while convenient access to the A1 makes journeys throughout Northumberland and further afield straightforward.

Then, in the other direction, there is the coast.

Northumberland's beaches and coastal landscape are within easy reach, allowing a future owner to enjoy the best of both worlds - countryside walks one day and the sea the next.

It is precisely this combination that makes the property equally interesting as a permanent home, rural retreat or base from which to enjoy everything this part of Northumberland has to offer.

The Final Word Tynely New Houses is the sort of cottage many people picture when they imagine leaving the noise behind and escaping to Northumberland.

Dating from the 1800s, its stone-built exterior and period origins are complemented inside by high ceilings, reclaimed parquet flooring, an original cast-iron fireplace and the glow of a wood-burning stove.

Yet this is also a very usable home: Two double bedrooms, a spacious dining kitchen, double glazing, flexible heating, two parking spaces, a workshop and that wonderfully generous separate garden all add substance to its undeniable charm.

Most importantly, it offers a lifestyle.

Countryside outside the windows, the fire lit inside, the Northumberland coast within easy reach and the A1 close enough to keep the rest of the world connected - a little piece of rural Northumberland to call your own.
