31, Sekforde Street, Clerkenwell, EC1R 0HA

Available immediately, a fine example of an exquisite Grade II listed house, situated on arguably one of the most sought-after streets in Clerkenwell.

Dating to circa 1834, the house was originally the home of Robert Bunting, a renowned lapidarist.

In more recent years, it served as a distinguished silversmith’s workshop, where national treasures, including the fa Cup, Wimbledon trophies, and royal silverware were meticulously restored and maintained.

Arranged over four floors and extending to approximately 1,708 sq. Ft, the property underwent a comprehensive refurbishment and rebuilding programme in 2007.

The then owner worked closely with British Heritage to preserve and reinstate many original features, while introducing high-quality contemporary finishes.

Further enhancements include a beautifully appointed kitchen/dining room with Gaggenau appliances, bespoke cabinetry, elegant, fitted wardrobes, a striking shower room, and a thoughtfully landscaped garden.

The accommodation is both fluid and versatile.

The ground floor offers an open-plan kitchen and dining space, ideal for entertaining, while the first floor hosts a formal drawing room with floor-to-ceiling sash windows and an original fireplace.

A fully fitted home office easily adaptable as a fourth bedroom completes this level.

The principal bedroom suite occupies the entire top floor, featuring generous built-in storage and a spacious shower room.

The lower ground floor provides two additional double bedrooms, one of which retains the original range, along with a guest shower room.

To the rear lies a charming 30 ft landscaped courtyard garden, believed to be among the largest on Sekforde Street.

The property benefits from exceptional storage throughout, including a large loft, a small outhouse, and access to under-pavement vaults.

Sekforde Street derives its name from Thomas Sekford (1517–1587), an Elizabethan lawyer and mp under Queen Elizabeth I, who bequeathed part of his Clerkenwell estate.

The street was laid out in the late 1820s under the direction of surveyor C.R. Cockerell and his assistant James Noble.

Historically home to skilled craftspeople, jewellers, clockmakers, printers, and metalworkers it remains one of the best-preserved streets of the Sekforde Estate, retaining much of its original character.

Ideally positioned just moments from Clerkenwell Green and Exmouth Market, the house enjoys a prime central location.

Farringdon Station is within easy reach, offering access to the Circle, Metropolitan, and Hammersmith & City lines, as well as National Rail and the Elizabeth line, providing direct connections to Heathrow, Canary Wharf, the West End, and beyond.

Clerkenwell is widely regarded as London’s design quarter, home to leading architectural practices and bespoke furniture makers, and is conveniently located for the City’s financial district and the historic Inns of Court.
