ABOUT THE BUILDING The communal areas of The Gessner have been designed in collaboration with Fettle.

The London-LA design studio is behind some of the world’s best-loved hospitality spaces, from Moncks of Dover Street to Hoxton hotels in Rome and Portland.

You’ll find that same design flair in every detail of The Gessner, from the oak architraves that surround Crittall-style doors to solid timber flooring milled in Wales.

The spacious, air-conditioned gym on the ground floor is well stocked with state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment, so forget queuing for a lone treadmill or rummaging for the right free weights.

A custom mirror runs the length of a wall for those quick form checks and the hospitality-level light control system sets the mood for classes.

On the same floor is a dedicated workspace for residents. Furnished with a mix of vintage and custom pieces, it’s a plush but practical spot with plug sockets just where you want them.

Club chairs and sink-in sofas are upholstered in velvets and mohairs, while a cork ceiling and abstract works by British artist Sara Dare add a contemporary twist.

Pop down for an impromptu coffee with a neighbour, or settle into a quiet corner for an inbox-clearing session.

Opposite is the double-height cafe, with its stained oak panelling, timber terrazzo bar and 1960s Italian counterweight pendant.

The same bespoke panelling frames individual electronic post boxes in the corridor.

Up on the thirteenth floor, reeded glass doors connect a cocooning lounge space with a private dining room and commercial-grade chef’s kitchen in timber and terrazzo.

Equipped with Gaggenau appliances and fully stocked with artisanal tableware from Borough Kitchens, it can be smartly sequestered for supper clubs, big birthdays or events that require a little extra fanfare.

With its sleek modern fireplace and skyline views, the private dining space seats ten on rope-back leather chairs.

Reserved just for residents, the spacious roof terrace is primed for every weather eventuality, with rows of sun loungers shaded by parasols and a heated barbecue area to stretch the grilling season.

Exceptional views over Tottenham take in the crest of the stadium and the open green space of Down Lane Park.

The Gessner’s guest suites are just the thing for keeping friends and family close – but not too close.

For match days or special meet-ups, this pair of bookable hotel-style apartments feature oak and marble kitchens, bespoke dividers and design classics like Børge Mogensen ‘J39’ chairs.

Swift access to the roof terrace is another sweetener. Way of Life has brought The Gessner to life with an eclectic edit of furniture, fabrics and tailored finishes.

Handmade pieces highlight British makers and manufacturers, from Northern Lights to East London Parasol Company, and planting is masterminded by Conservatory Archives.

You’ll find a selection of artworks from some of Britain’s most exciting emerging artists on the walls, from Becky Blair’s studies of colour and form to Lizbeth Holstein’s reflections on everyday life.

This building is designated as car-free, meaning that no private vehicles are permitted on-site.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to use alternative transport options such as walking, cycling, or public transport.

ABOUT THE AREA Tottenham Hale is a lively community at the juncture of north and east London.

Nestled between Tottenham High Road and the River Lea, the neighbourhood was once an industrial powerhouse and now attracts a diverse crowd of creatives, young families and professionals.

Top transport links mean King’s Cross is 11 minutes away and Oxford Circus only five more, while handy National Rail routes deliver you directly to Stratford, Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport.

For those in need of some green, it’s a ten-minute stroll to the edge of Walthamstow Wetlands, a peaceful nature reserve which covers more than two hundred acres of Thames Water reservoir.

One of London’s most important waterways, the River Lea offers miles of walking and cycle routes, connecting the most committed with Hackney Marshes and Stratford’s Olympic Park.

Head to the High Road for local eats, including cult favourite Chuku’s – a Nigerian tapas spot that Beyoncé tapped for big things.

For a Sunday roast you can rely on, public toilet-turned-pub The High Cross is one of the area’s greatest success stories.

Weekends with a different flavour might start at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a twenty-five-minute walk away, and finish at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, which runs an impressive programme of theatre, art and music.

On a sunny day you’ll find plenty of locals parked on pews at Hackney Wick export Beavertown Brewery – or spade in hand at East Hale Allotments round the corner.
