54, Queen's Gate Mews, London, SW7 5QN

“A beautifully composed house in one of London’s most historic mews” This bright two-bedroom house spans four levels and sits in a peaceful position in Queen’s Gate Mews, South Kensington.

The mews forms part of the Queen’s Gate Conservation Area, dating back to the 1860s.

Originally built as coach houses and stables for the grand residencies surrounding Queen’s Gate, it is one of the few in London to retain its formal gateway.

The home’s period character has been preserved, with high ceilings, wooden flooring and original sash windows, while the decoration feels decidedly contemporary.

The Tour The house sits at the end of a traditional, cobbled mews.

Its façade reflects the period character of London’s coach houses, with painted original brickwork, timber sash windows and an original stable door.

The light throughout the house is wonderful, with direct light coming in from east and south, and daylight coming in from the northerly aspect too.

Entry is on the ground floor, where a bright entrance hall opens into the reception room. The walls are washed in white, while dual-aspect bow windows draw in plenty of natural light.

A ceramic wood-burning stove warms the room in the colder months, and there is ample space for a comfortable seating area and a dining table and chairs.

Across the hallway, the kitchen features shaker-style streamlined cabinetry and integrated appliances.

A striking spiral staircase rises beneath a double-height bay window to the principal bedroom – a bright and airy space that stretches across the entire floor.

White walls with arched wall niches and warm wooden flooring create a serene atmosphere.

Storage is incorporated throughout, while an en suite bathroom has a free-standing bathtub, polished brass fittings and elegant tiling.

A tall sash window invites natural light and frames views of the mews below. On the second floor are an additional bedroom and a separate bathroom.

Flanked by dormer sash windows and a glass ceiling, the bedroom is filled with natural light. Built-in storage lines the back wall, while terracotta tiling runs underfoot.

The lower ground level houses a cinema room, exquisitely finished with a pairing of sumptuous patterns and rich brown tones. A utility room and a WC complete the plan.
