The Barn, Thirlby Lane, Milton Keynes, MK5 6DL

The Barn on Thirlby Lane doesn't just offer the opportunity to buy a turnkey home oozing with character features, it gives you the chance to own a piece of local history.

Careful consideration has gone into the reinstatement of this barn over the last 11 years, with the owners creating the best of both worlds - a traditional oak-framed barn with a curved modern extension.

As soon as you enter the plot you feel immediately transported to a much more rural setting, making it hard to believe that you are a little over a mile from Central Milton Keynes.

As the barn sits in the middle of its 0.56 acre plot, there is a generous courtyard with parking for multiple vehicles.

There is also a double garage for those with vehicles they wish to keep out of the elements, as well as a covered carport for cars you use on a daily basis.

The main entrance brings you into South Barn where your eyes will be drawn immediately up to the abundance of exposed beams.

Circa 600 years old, this barn is your place to welcome guests, and offers casual seating.

One of your favourite spots is sure to be the mezzanine which overlooks this space, where you can admire the beams up close. Tucked out of sight is storage and a WC.

As you transition from South Barn to North Barn, you pass a staircase which leads to the only bedroom on the first floor.

Not only is it the only bedroom on the first floor, but it's also the only bedroom in one of the barns, making it ideal for those who can't pull themselves away from the characterful charm of this home.

This bedroom also has its own study area and shower room. You pass a useful utility room, which also has access to the garden, on your way to the kitchen.

A delightful blend of old and new, the modern kitchen helps the character features of the barn stand out.

The dining area acts as a separator between the barns and the modern extension, and offers glass doors which open up to both the courtyard and the formal garden.

Before you enter the highly impressive curved bedroom wing, you have a generous family area meaning this home offers the coveted open-plan kitchen/dining/family room which most families crave.

It's hard not to admire the attention to deal and engineering it would have taken to create the curved bedroom wing. The four bedrooms are split with two bedrooms either side.

The east side has the main bedroom with its even more impressive curved ensuite which has both a bath and walk-in shower.

The bedroom next door is connected via a deck which also runs to the glass doors of the kitchen, meaning not only could you dedicate this room to a formal dressing room, but there is easy access to the kitchen for your morning cup of coffee.

As you walk towards the west side of the bedroom wing, you pass three hidden rooms. There is a plant room, large store (which the owners son used as a gaming room) and the family bathroom.

This bathroom also has a bath and walk-in shower, as well as accent lighting. The two bedrooms this end of the wing share this bathroom, with the larger of the two bedrooms having built-in wardrobes.

Both these bedrooms have doors to a seating area of the courtyard so could have their own dedicated outside space. Alternatively this outside space could be used solely by the two bedroom annexe.

At over 700 sq.ft this annexe works really well if you have multi-generational needs, where parents will feel more than comfortable.

The layout offers an apartment-esque kitchen/living space, two bedroom areas and a shower room. Where the annexe offers flexibility is in its large reception room.

This could be a lounge if the annexe is being used for its intended purpose, but if not, this room could make a large home office or even a gym with incredible views back at the barns Disclaimer The mention of any appliance and/or services to this property does not imply that they are in full and efficient working order, and their condition is unknown to us.
