It is this combination of architectural heritage and modern convenience that makes Blairvadach House so distinctive.

The property enjoys the considerable benefit of extensive, beautifully maintained communal grounds.

Mature trees, open lawns and established planting provide a peaceful and picturesque environment, offering residents an enviable sense of space and privacy.

In addition, this particular ground-floor apartment benefits from not one but two of its own, private and enclosed patio and additional garden areas on either side of the building providing seating areas to enjoy the sunshine at different times of the day.

The setting is wonderfully tranquil, with the changing seasons bringing their own character to the grounds.

Wildlife and birdlife are frequent visitors, while the surrounding countryside provides an ever-changing backdrop of woodland, hills and water.

One of Blairvadach House’s greatest assets is its elevated position overlooking the Gare Loch.

The outlook is expansive and atmospheric, with the loch providing a constantly changing panorama according to the weather and season.

Morning mist can settle across the water, bright sunlight catches the loch on clear days, and the surrounding hills take on increasingly dramatic colours as the seasons progress.

At the end of the day, the setting becomes particularly peaceful, offering an outlook that feels remarkably rural despite being within easy reach of Helensburgh.

For those who appreciate Scotland’s great landscapes, this is a home where the view becomes part of everyday life.

Blairvadach House is not simply an attractive period building; it is a property with a fascinating past.

The present house dates from around 1850 and was designed by the distinguished architect John Thomas Rochead for Sir James Anderson, who served as Lord Provost of Glasgow and was later a Member of Parliament.

Historic Environment Scotland recognises Blairvadach as a building of special architectural and historic interest and lists the house as Category B.

The house subsequently passed through private ownership before taking on a very different role during the twentieth century.

In 1939, Blairvadach was acquired by Glasgow Corporation and used as a children’s hospital, with children transferred from Glasgow during the Second World War.

The estate also became associated with wartime activity, including a prisoner-of-war camp.

Its later life included use as a council property before the historic building was sensitively brought forward for residential conversion.

Today, its grand architectural proportions and surviving period details provide a remarkable link with Shandon’s Victorian past.

The village of Shandon occupies a beautiful position on the eastern shore of the Gare Loch, immediately south of Helensburgh.

The area is particularly attractive to those seeking a quieter lifestyle without sacrificing access to everyday amenities.

The surrounding landscape is quintessentially west of Scotland: Water, woodland, rolling countryside and dramatic hills combine to create an exceptionally scenic environment.

The proximity of the Gare Loch and surrounding countryside provides abundant opportunities for walking, cycling, sailing, waterside exploration and simply enjoying the outdoors.

Despite the peaceful setting, Blairvadach House is conveniently placed for Helensburgh, making it possible to enjoy the best of both worlds – the atmosphere of a secluded country residence with the amenities of a well-established town close at hand.

Helensburgh provides an excellent range of everyday facilities, including independent shops, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, professional services and leisure amenities.

The town also offers a variety of schooling and community facilities. Transport connections are another significant advantage.

Helensburgh’s railway services provide convenient links towards Glasgow and further afield, while road connections make the wider Clyde coast, Loch Lomond and the surrounding Argyll countryside readily accessible.

The location is particularly appealing for commuters who want to escape to a peaceful waterside setting at the end of the working day, while remaining within practical reach of Glasgow and the wider central belt.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, the position is equally compelling, with Loch Lomond, the Rosneath Peninsula, Garelochhead and the wider Argyll landscape providing an exceptional playground for walking, cycling, sailing and exploring.

Residents benefit from private parking, with two allocated spaces per property, together with two EV charging points, providing a particularly useful modern convenience.

The combination of secure entry, private parking, communal grounds and the ease of ground-floor living makes the apartment both highly practical and wonderfully easy to enjoy.

Blairvadach House offers something increasingly difficult to find: A genuine sense of history and grandeur without compromising on modern comfort.

Here, a beautifully finished contemporary apartment sits within an elegant Victorian mansion, surrounded by mature grounds and overlooking one of Scotland’s most attractive inland waterways.

The result is a home that feels peaceful, private and distinctly special.

Whether enjoyed as a permanent residence, a sophisticated downsizing opportunity, a weekend retreat or a base from which to explore the extraordinary scenery of the west coast, this exceptional ground-floor apartment provides a rare opportunity to become part of the story of one of Shandon’s most recognisable historic houses.

Blairvadach House is more than an apartment – it is a lifestyle, a landscape and a piece of Scottish architectural history.
