About
What the sellers say: "From the moment we stepped in through the tower entrance, The Crag had our hearts. Yes, it was a wreck, but we saw what it could be.
The house was sad and in need of some love, which we were determined to provide. For us, it was a big risk, but we had to save the house. It had stood empty for around 15 years and it showed.
Two years of hard work followed, but it was worth it. i’ll never forget my plasterer saying, ‘The house is happier’. At the time, he was plastering the middle floor.
There is a feeling here that nobody can quantify. Structurally, it was sound, but we restored it internally to its original grandeur. The thick stone walls envelope us.
Warm in the winter and cool in the summer The woodland garden is magnificent. The original owner in 1906 must have gone on a ‘European tour’ to source plants and trees for the garden.
Spring is exciting, watching the garden burst into life and wondering where the owls and the woodpeckers will nest, watching the young pheasants and partridge running around on the lawn.
In the time we’ve lived here, we’ve seen deer, fox, stoats, weasels, rabbits, etc.
The bird life is amazing with buzzards, kestrels, sparrow hawks, tawny and barn owls, herons, wagtails, woodcocks, etc. Etc. Etc.
Each season has its charm; in Winter, you can settle by the wood burner, in Spring, everything comes to life, the Summer can be spent in the garden and the Autumn sitting by the pond in the early evening sun.
We know we are biased, but this is the best house in Cornwall, close to all of the fantastic beaches of the North coast, but far enough away from the madding crowd.
Secluded but accessible, grand but a true home, Edwardian but modern.
