Once the site of a 7th-century abbey, the town grew as an important agricultural and trading centre, shaped by centuries of farming, river transport and close ties to nearby Ely.

Today, Soham offers a thriving community atmosphere with a well-balanced blend of rural charm and modern amenities.

Its high street includes independent shops, cafés, a post office, pharmacy, pubs and essential services, while a weekly market keeps the town's historic trading spirit alive.

Families are well catered for, with several schools including the well-regarded Soham Village College, and a good range of sports clubs, green spaces and community groups.

A major advantage of Soham is its railway station, offering direct connections to Ely in under 10 minutes and Cambridge in just over 20 minutes, making it ideal for commuters, students or day-trippers.

Road links via the A142 also make Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and the wider region easily accessible.

Just six miles away, the cathedral city of Ely provides additional amenities including supermarkets, boutique shops, riverside restaurants and the iconic Ely Cathedral.

Regular farmers' markets, cultural events and seasonal festivals bring the city to life throughout the year, while the surrounding countryside and riverside trails are perfect for walks, cycling and nature-watching.

For a livelier city experience, Cambridge is less than 30 minutes away and offers world-renowned universities, museums, theatres, high street shopping and a packed cultural calendar.

Back in Soham, the town continues to grow while retaining its warm, close-knit feel.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful base near the countryside, a commuter-friendly location, or a town with a strong sense of identity and community, Soham makes an ideal place to call home.
