4, Horton Mews, Thornbury, Bromyard, Herefordshire, HR7 4NG

4 Horton Mews offers something increasingly difficult to find: genuine peace, proper countryside and a small community around you, without feeling completely isolated.

Set in the Herefordshire countryside, far from the madding crowd, Bromyard is nevertheless only a six minute drive away.

If you come from the more populated South of England and dream of swapping that for open countryside, tranquillity and a gentler pace of life, I can wholeheartedly recommend.

This home is tucked away with farmland walks and horses for neighbours.

There are three convenient parking spaces before you wander through the pretty front garden, beneath a pergola draped in wisteria to the front door.

Inside, a welcoming hallway has a useful cloakroom and leads into a comfortable L-shaped sitting room. A log burner provides a warming focal point, while the windows frame pretty country views.

From here enter the generous garden room overlooking the front, creating a peaceful place to sit, read and unwind. The country-style kitchen is well fitted with room for a breakfast table.

Appliances include a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and freestanding fridge/freezer.

The DeLonghi range cooker has two electric ovens plus a gas hob supplied by butane cylinders (each cylinder lasts for over a year) Upstairs are four double bedrooms, one currently used as an artists studio but also an ideal home office.

Every bedroom enjoys a charming outlook, reinforcing just how rural and peaceful the setting is.

To the rear is an area of communal land where you can potter, enjoy the countryside and watch the resident chickens and ducks going about their day.

The house has wonderfully thick walls and very little disturbs the peace beyond birdsong, the occasional neigh of a horse and perhaps a distant tractor working the fields. Yet this isn't isolation.

There is a small community around you, invaluable when you have forgotten that pint of milk!

Most people seeking a rural life want tranquillity rather than complete seclusion and Horton Mews strikes that balance perfectly. The house has benefited from some significant practical improvements.

Electric underfloor heating serves the hall, kitchen and garden room with each area individually controlled.

The heating was replaced by German Elkatherm electric radiators with individual room controls and worldwide app operation.

Domestic hot water has also been upgraded, with the previous immersion system replaced by a warrantied Sunamp Thermino heat battery system, designed to provide plentiful hot water efficiently and on demand.

The property is double glazed throughout. The large loft is boarded and has an electricity supply, providing excellent storage.

Full-fibre broadband is already connected; an increasingly important detail for anyone intending to work from home.

Importantly for a rural home the septic tank system was upgraded in April 2026 to a modern Klargester-type treatment system.

Horton Mews Residents Company, comprising the six properties and farmhouse, manage the shared arrangements.

The current contribution is approximately £200 per annum, covering upkeep and emptying of the treatment system together with communal grass cutting and driveway maintenance.

Outside there is a wood store, water tap, garden shed and electrical point. The large outbuilding visible on online mapping does not belong to No.

4; it is used for stabling two horses and also provides storage for a neighbouring property. 4 Horton Mews isn't simply about buying a four-bedroom house.

It is about buying into a quieter way of life, countryside outside every window, horses next to you, neighbours when you need them and Bromyard just a short drive away.

For someone looking to leave congestion behind without disappearing from civilisation altogether, I think it is a rather special place to call home.

Mains services including electricity and water are connected to the property. LOCATION Thornbury is an idyllic, farming area close to Bromyard.

The Market Square remains at its heart, hosting a well-supported monthly market.

Often referred to as the 'Town of Festivals', Bromyard has a notably active cultural calendar for its size, including the established Folk Festival and seasonal events.

This lends the town a lively yet balanced atmosphere throughout the year, complemented by a strong sense of local involvement.

Independent businesses are a particular strength, with Legges delicatessen - renowned for its quality local produce - standing out.

The area sits at the heart of traditional cider- and hop-growing country, further enhancing its rural appeal. The surrounding countryside is a defining feature - rolling, varied and largely unspoilt.
