Shortlands, Slip Lane, Dover, CT15 7DA

Slip Lane, Alkham, Dover Property Description: Guide Price £650,000 - £675,000.

Set in a wonderfully peaceful position in Alkham, Shortlands is a beautifully presented detached bungalow surrounded by extensive, carefully landscaped gardens on a plot of approximately 0.35 acres.

The property has undergone significant improvement during the current owners' time here, including a substantial refurbishment and extension in 2018, when the roof was also renewed.

More recently, solar panels and battery storage were installed in 2024, adding a modern energy-conscious element to a home that has clearly been developed with long-term living in mind.

Everything is arranged over one level, with a spacious entrance hall creating a welcoming central point from which the principal rooms are reached.

One of the highlights is the kitchen and dining room, extending to approximately 22 feet in length.

The kitchen has a smart contemporary finish, with grey cabinetry, extensive granite work surfaces, integrated appliances, water softener system, electric blinds and a large central preparation area.

Overhead glazing and exposed timber detailing introduce both natural light and character.

There is ample space alongside the kitchen for a substantial dining table, while wide glazed doors open directly onto the terrace and garden.

This connection with the outside works particularly well here, with views across the established planting providing a colourful backdrop to the room.

The separate living room is another particularly generous space, measuring approximately 20 foot by 12 foot.

Large windows on two sides bring in plenty of natural light and look directly towards the surrounding garden. The bedroom accommodation is arranged separately from the main living areas.

The principal bedroom is an impressive room in its own right, extending to approximately 23 feet and incorporating a seating area alongside the sleeping space.

Glazed doors open directly outside, bringing the garden into view from the moment you wake up, while electric blinds add a practical finishing touch.

An adjoining dressing room provides substantial wardrobe and storage space, while the contemporary en-suite is finished with a modern suite and walk-in shower.

A second double bedroom provides comfortable guest or family accommodation, while the third bedroom is currently well suited to use as a study.

Its proportions allow it to remain flexible for those needing an additional bedroom, dedicated home office or hobby room. There is also a separate shower room positioned centrally within the bungalow.

There may also be longer-term scope to adapt the property further.

The vendors have identified possibilities including conversion of the garage or a chalet-style roof extension, although any alterations would naturally remain subject to planning permission, building regulations and any restrictions associated with the location.

Outside: The gardens are arguably as important as the house itself.

The property sits within established grounds that have been carefully planted and landscaped to create a series of distinct areas rather than one conventional lawn.

Immediately adjoining the house is a broad paved terrace with plenty of room for outdoor dining and seating.

Paths then meander through mature beds filled with shrubs, flowering plants and established trees, creating different viewpoints and secluded places to sit.

A covered garden seating area provides a particularly attractive space for entertaining or simply enjoying the surroundings throughout more of the year.

Elsewhere are raised vegetable beds, further terraces and open lawn, while the mature boundary planting creates a strong sense of privacy.

The integral garage provides useful parking and storage, complemented by an EV charger and further driveway parking to the front.

Location: Alkham is a small and picturesque village nestled within the Alkham Valley, part of the Kent Downs National Landscape between Dover and Folkestone.

Its rolling countryside, wooded hills and network of rural lanes and footpaths give the village a distinctly peaceful character, while its position keeps the coast and surrounding towns readily accessible.

The village is home to the Grade I listed Church of St Anthony and has a strong rural identity, with countryside walks available virtually from the doorstep.

Nearby villages and towns provide everyday shopping and services, while Folkestone and Dover have a much broader selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, leisure facilities and schooling.

Folkestone is particularly useful for commuters, with High Speed rail services from Folkestone Central to London St Pancras, while road connections via the A20/M20 provide access towards Ashford, the wider motorway network and the Channel Tunnel.

Canterbury is also accessible to the north, making Alkham an excellent base for those wanting a quieter countryside lifestyle while remaining connected to East Kent's principal towns.
