One Furrow Ploughmans Piece, Hunstanton, PE36 6NE

Set on the peaceful southern edge of the sought-after North Norfolk village of Thornham, One Furrow enjoys an exceptionally private position surrounded by open countryside and far-reaching views.

Originally built in the late 1970s, the property has been thoughtfully transformed by the current owners into a contemporary home designed around light, space and connection to the landscape.

The house offers beautifully free-flowing living spaces, with a practical yet sociable layout centred around an open-plan kitchen and dining area and a substantial sitting room with an elegant fireplace.

A charming original serving hatch remains as a subtle nod to the home’s origins.

Two ground floor bedroom suites both feature en-suite bathrooms, including one with a distinctive Japanese influence opening onto a private terrace and tranquil Japanese garden.

A striking central staircase leads to a light-filled first-floor reception room with direct access to the expansive roof terrace, where the panoramic countryside views become even more impressive.

Two further bedroom suites are located upstairs, including the principal suite with its own west-facing balcony and roof terrace access.

Thoughtful practical details include a discreet laundry chute to the utility room, while outside, the gardens blend naturally into the surrounding countryside.

A large covered patio creates an excellent outdoor entertaining space with direct access from the main living areas.

Further benefits include an adjoining garage and generous off-street parking for several vehicles and boats.

Lovingly extended and reconfigured over many years, One Furrow combines architectural individuality, practicality and a strong connection to its peaceful coastal and countryside setting.

Thornham Thornham may just be the quintessential Norfolk coastal bolthole.

With plenty of brick and flint cottages and larger period homes just a short walk from the water’s edge and nature reserve, dig a little deeper and you’ll also discover it is a fantastic foodie hotspot with a clutch of award winning pubs and eateries, along with a boutique retail park.

Once a largely forgotten village on the run between Hunstanton and Burnham Market, over the past decade Thornham has evolved into a chic stop.

Historically a centre of trade and seafaring, the village was used by the Romans and saw fierce conflict between smugglers over the centuries until the harbour silted up in the early 20th century.

Many of the traditional fishermen’s cottages have been gentrified with a soft palette and contemporary coastal style and life now moves at a calmer pace.

Start the day with a slow brunch at Thornham Deli before picking up some nibbles at the food counter or browsing its quirky lifestyle store.

Then, continue your retail therapy a little further along the coast road at Drove Orchards, which seems to have something fresh each season.

Or take it easy and fill your basket at the Farm Shop – with a small meat counter, deli, bakery and pantry selection, plus a satellite of Gurneys Fish Shop next door, dinner’s sorted.

Open Sky Cycles can also be found here, offering bike hire, making this a great base to leave the car and explore.

Drove Orchards is also home to the original, award-winning Eric’s Fish & Chips and Eric’s Pizza, located in a neighbouring yurt, where traditional dishes have been given a contemporary spin.

For a relaxed dining experience, The Chequers is a popular choice, offering a south-facing seated area and dining pods on the rear terrace, alongside excellent traditional roasts.

Whilst some stumble upon Thornham by accident while touring the coastline, many have decided to make it a place to call home. Services connected Mains electricity, water and drainage.
