Foxglove Cottage, 18 Higher Lane, Macclesfield, SK10 5AR

Perched high in Kerridge, Foxglove Cottage is one of those rare properties that stops you in your tracks - not just for what it is, but for where it is.

From this elevated position, the Cheshire Plains stretch endlessly to the west, and every evening the sun sets directly over them, filling the cottage, the garden, and the garden office with an exceptional quality of light.

Built from local stone and full of period integrity, Foxglove Cottage has been lovingly maintained and sensitively improved by its current owners.

Exposed stone walls, original fireplaces, and a cast iron log burner give the ground floor an immediate warmth, while two reception rooms flow naturally into one another to create a sociable, open feel that belies the cottage’s traditional exterior.

The kitchen is the heart of the home - recently modernised with shaker-style cabinetry, a classic Belfast sink, warm timber worktops, and a Rangemaster cooker.

Upstairs includes two generous double bedrooms with the master bedroom in particular framing the view beautifully.

A newly fitted four-piece bathroom suite - with both a freestanding bath and separate shower - completes the first floor.

The Garden Office Perhaps the most remarkable feature of Foxglove Cottage is the purpose-built garden office, positioned at the very top of the terraced garden to make the most of the elevation.

Clad in warm timber with a full-width panoramic window, it frames one of the finest working views in the region with a horizon that stretches far beyond Cheshire.

For anyone working from home, this is not merely a practical space.

It is genuinely inspiring - the kind of place where ideas come easily and the end of the working day is marked by a sunset rather than a commute.

The Garden The terraced garden rises from the cottage in a series of beautifully maintained levels, planted with care and designed to be enjoyed through every season.

A decked terrace directly behind the cottage provides the perfect spot for evening drinks as the sun descends over the plain - a ritual that those who live here describe as one of the great pleasures of daily life at Foxglove Cottage.

Location Kerridge is a quietly sought-after village sitting between Macclesfield and Bollington on the western edge of the Peak District.

The Middlewood Way - a popular walking and cycling trail - runs nearby, along with the scenic towpath of the Macclesfield Canal, perfect for a gentle evening stroll.

Walkers are also spoilt for choice with easy access onto the Gritstone Trail, which threads along the ridge and out into some of Cheshire’s finest countryside.

The independent cafés, restaurants, and shops of Bollington are just minutes away, and Macclesfield railway station provides direct services to Manchester in under 30 minutes, making this a genuinely practical base for city workers who refuse to compromise on where they come home to.

The cottage sits within the Kerridge conservation area, ensuring that the character of this exceptional setting is protected for the long term. EPC Rating: D
