Brynymor House, Cardigan, SA43 1PA

Brynymor House is an iconic building on the stunning Teifi estuary and instantly recognisable to any who knows the area.

Built around 1800, when Cardigan was the busiest port in Wales, this statement house was constructed to show the wealth and success of its sea captain owner.

Its profile has been recognisable ever since by anyone navigating this beautiful stretch of waterway.

This grade II star listed property was in the same family’s ownership for decades before the current owner purchased it off market and painstakingly restored it.

The property offers stunning accommodation over four floors, with all of its principal rooms enjoying spectacular views over this breathtaking tidal estuary.

Entering the property from the front, you arrive in a central hallway which connects all of the rooms on this ground floor level and boasts stunning original cornices and mouldings.

To your left you find the wonderful sitting room with its open fire and views over the front lawns and river. To the right you find the formal dining room, a truly magical space in the home.

To the rear of the ground floor, you have another entrance to the home, along with access to the kitchen.

The kitchen is another fantastic space which has undergone a complete renovation and now forms a beautiful, practical, family room.

At its heart is the wood pellet fired stove which as well as cooking meals for the owners, heats the property sustainably.

This app controlled heating system wonderfully combines modern and traditional technology and fits perfectly in this captivating home.

Completing the accommodation on this level is a rear lobby containing the original servant’s staircase to the rear of the property, along with a handy cloakroom.

A stunning staircase at the front of the home leads up to the first and second floor and down to the basement. The basement offers excellent dry storage and has a window to the front of the property.

Climbing the staircase to the first floor you find three double bedrooms, one with an ensuite lavatory and one single, currently used as an office and a family bathroom to the side.

Continuing to the second floor the property offers similarly impressive accommodation with four more bedrooms, three doubles and a single and another family bathroom.

All of the bedrooms at the front of the property, six in total, enjoy stunning views of the river, with those at the rear benefiting from charming views of the gardens and surrounding woodland.

Externally Brynymor offers just as much as it does inside. The land surrounding the property extends to approximately four and a half acres.

Comprised of mostly woodland, the ground also includes landscaped formal gardens around the main house, along with a very productive kitchen garden and handcrafted bespoke greenhouse.

To the front of the home the formal garden leads down to the water’s edge and perfectly frames the stunning facade of the property.

In addition to the main house there is also a fully renovated stone barn, which creates a hugely flexible entertaining/storage/workspace.

There is also the footprint of the original stone cottage that was on the land before Brynymor House was constructed, which presents an exciting opportunity for a purchaser.

There is a large boat shed next to the private slipway, along with two timber framed garages found off the entrance driveway.

The property is situated just outside the thriving market town of Cardigan. Once regarded as simply the gateway to Pembrokeshire, recent investment has seen the town come into its own.

The extensive work on the castle, its award winning theatre and cinema – host to the widely acclaimed Other Voices music and arts festival and the large range of artisan shops, restaurants, and cafes has brought a vibrancy back to this historic town to the delight of both its visitors and those lucky enough to call it home.

The centre of the town is within walking distance of Brynymor House, which is even more surprising considering the property’s stunning private position.

The chance to purchase such an iconic residence is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The fact that this home is presented in perhaps the best condition it has been in over two hundred years, is even more special.

It has been a true labour of love for the current owners to bring this landmark house on this stunning waterway back to its best.

With guests to the home rumoured to have included Lord Admiral Nelson, the remarkable history of this property is second to none in the area.
