Brompton Square, London

This elegant apartment occupies the upper floors of a handsome Grade II listing late Regency townhouse.

Built between 1824 and 1839, the characterful stocl-brick terrace forms part of one of London’s most distinctive garden squares, with stuccoed lower elevations, traditional sash windows and ornate balconies.

Today, the building has been thoughtfully divided into a collection of stylish apartments.

Arranged over the upper three floors, the property has its own entrance on the third floor with an attractive contemporary staircase rising through the levels.

The principal living accommodation occupies the fifth floor and is conceived as a stylish open-plan space, with a trio of windows at ither end drawing natural light through the room, complemented by two roof lights and smart hardwood flooring.

The south-west facing aspect has French doors opening onto a balcony, with views towards the historic architecture and church towers of Brompton.

The generous reception space is subtly zoned for sitting, dining and cooking, with built-in cabinetry incorporating a wine fridge and a contemporary kitchen arranged around a central island.

Dark timber cabinetry is complemented by integrated Miele appliances, while a cloakroom and useful storage complete the floor. The bedrooms are arranged on the fourth floor.

The principal suite is particularly well appointed, with extensive built-in wardrobes, three French windows opening onto south-west facing balconies and a smart en suite bathroom with a bath and a separate shower.

There are two further bedrooms, one with built-in wardrobes, together with a well-appointed shower room.

In addition to its balconies, the apartment features a charming roof terrace on the sixth floor, where chimney top-views extend across Brompton and the surrounding rooftops.

Paved and enclosed by traditional iron balustrading, it provides an atmospheric setting for morning coffee or an evening drink, with views towards the gardens and tower of Holy Trinity Brompton and the distinctive dome of the nearby Brompton Oratory.

Mature trees soften the outlook, while the elevated position gives a wonderful sense of space and perspective.

It is an appealing outdoor retreat in one of central London’s most established and south-after residential enclaves.

Brompton Square occupies an exceptional position in the historic heart of Knightsbridge, within the Brompton Conservation Area.

This handsome garden square is surrounded by elegant listed terraces and centred on a private communal garden, planted with mature trees and established greenery.

Exceptionally well placed for London’s cultural institutions, the Victoria and Albert Museum is particularly close by, alongside the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and Royal Albert Hall.

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are also within easy reach, providing extensive green space close to home.

Knightsbridge is moments away, with Harrods, Harvey Nichols and the boutiques of Sloane Street providing exceptional choice.

Closer to home, Old Brompton Road, Brompton Road and the surrounding streets offer a more electric selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, while Chelsea and the boutiques and restaurants of King’s Road are also readily accessible.

Transport connections are excellent, with South Kensington Underground Station just 0.4 miles away and Knightsbridge Underground Station 0.5 miles away providing access to the Circle, District and Piccadilly Lines.
