The Cover The famed Upper Wye Gorge - a spectacular picture-postcard image of the River Wye winding its way through the rocky landscape - serves as the impressive backdrop to this four-bedroom home, which presents an excellent layout for either multi-generational living or offers an opportunity for a holiday rental income.

Location: The spectacular setting of Symonds Yat is renowned for its phenomenal river scenery, expansive woodlands, and limestone cliffs.

There are a multitude of welcoming riverside pubs and restaurants, two of which also operate hand ferries so both sides of the river can be explored.

The area carries many delightful walking and cycle routes and, for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, various companies offer a wide range of activities such as canoe hire, rock climbing and caving.

The neighbouring village of Whitchurch is highly sought after as it boasts a wealth of amenities, including its Church of England Primary School, which secured 'Good' and 'Outstanding' scores during Ofsted's 2025 inspection.

It also offers a popular community-spirited village shop, Woods of Whitchurch, which also operates as a coffee shop and takeaway.

There is also an excellent village hall, a reputable mot centre, two highly commended hospitality venues - The Old Court Hotel and The Potting Shed - plus a post box and bus stop.

Symonds Yat is just two miles from the Welsh border and centred between the two popular market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, both of which offer highly regarded secondary schools, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, leisure facilities and independently owned shops.

A series of major road networks are also easily accessible; the A40 is around a mile away, and the eastbound road provides a direct route to Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds.

Meanwhile, motorists heading in the opposite direction can journey towards the M4 at Newport, giving access to Cardiff and London.

In addition, the M50 motorway begins in Ross-on-Wye, around eight miles away, which gives good access to the M5.

The home at a glance: The Cover was originally constructed as a Victorian holiday lodge but was extended considerably during the dawn of the Millennium.

The present owners have modernised the detached residence and installed solar (pv) panels on the roof, but have ensured that it continues to exude charm and character.

Owing to the hillside location, the grounds are predominantly sloped and laid out in front of the property, with a striking Zen garden setting an enchanting scene.

The elevated views from the home itself are phenomenal; a panorama of the heart of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is superbly showcased from many of the rooms in the home, and from the various balconies.

The main entrance leads directly into a beautifully bright open-plan living space.

Bi-fold doors, a series of full-height windows and a skylight allow plenty of natural light to cascade into the dual-aspect space.

There is a wood-burning stove - a staple of country life - which grants a cosy atmosphere during the colder months of the year.

The elegant kitchen is housed within this zone of the home, and this is presented in a chic copper and navy colour palette.

An ornate wooden carving over the extractor hood presents a striking focal point, but in terms of appliances, there is an integrated dishwasher, an integrated microwave and a Cannon range-style cooker.

Of the bedrooms, the master is the only one to reside on the top floor. This includes full-height glass doors which lead out to a balcony and exhibit the spellbinding surroundings.

A partially vaulted ceiling accentuates the generous size of the room, and it also features built-in wardrobes across one wall.

The neighbouring bathroom is an exquisite expanse which bears a bath, a separate step-in shower, a countertop vanity unit and a WC.

The three bedrooms on the ground floor all include en-suite facilities, but it is worth noting that one offers an opportunity for multi-generational living or passive income via a holiday rental, as it has an independent entrance into the home, a kitchenette and a private sitting room which is complete with an electric stove within a feature fireplace.

In terms of parking arrangements, there is a garage, a driveway and an EV charge point. General Services: Lpg central heating. Array of solar pv panels. Mains water, drainage and electricity.

Telephone line and fast fibre broadband (75 mps) is available, along with great mobile phone signal - Vodaphone currently. Local authority Herefordshire Council. Tax band F.

Tenure Freehold Directions: From Ross-on-Wye, follow the A40 towards Monmouth and take the exit at Whitchurch. Take the first exit at the roundabout, passing the primary school and stay on this lane.
