Perry Street, Wendover, Buckinghamshire, HP22 6DJ

Set within one of Wendover’s most desirable roads, this beautifully composed 1920s family house combines the quiet elegance of its interwar origins with a carefully considered contemporary extension and beautifully executed interior renovation.

Behind its crisp white elevations and distinctive red tile-hung gable lies a home of considerable warmth and character, thoughtfully reimagined for modern family life - sophisticated yet deeply comfortable, and designed as much around day-to-day living as it is entertaining.

The house occupies a mature and exceptionally private plot of approximately 0.3 acre, positioned just a short walk from Wendover’s High Street, railway station and local schools - a rare combination of seclusion and convenience in the very heart of this highly sought-after Chilterns market town.

Indeed, it is a setting that lends itself naturally to family life at every stage; safe and connected for older children, while equally ideal for younger families drawn to the gardens, schools and surrounding countryside.

Architecturally, the house retains all the hallmarks of the period: steep rooflines, generous proportions and an appealing sense of solidity and permanence.

A wide storm porch shelters the front entrance, opening into a broad hallway where the original staircase and panelled doors immediately establish the home’s character.

Much of the ground floor is unified by honey-toned oak flooring, bringing warmth and continuity to the principal living spaces.

To the front of the house, the sitting room is centred around a wide bay window and open fireplace, creating a room that feels both elegant and inviting.

Beyond, the rear of the house opens dramatically into a series of interconnected living spaces that form the true heart of the home.

Accessed through contemporary black steel glazed double doors, the open-plan kitchen, dining and family room has been exceptionally well conceived.

Natural light pours in from multiple directions, while expansive glazing creates a constant visual connection to the surrounding gardens.

The dining area is particularly striking, defined by its exposed pegged green oak frame, vaulted ceiling and walls of glass overlooking the terrace and lawn beyond.

Twin rooflights further enhance the sense of volume and openness, while the entire space possesses a calm, almost pavilion-like quality overlooking the garden.

At the centre of the arrangement sits the kitchen itself, fitted with traditional Shaker cabinetry in a rich deep blue, contrasted by crisp quartz worktops and arranged around a substantial central island with informal seating.

Integrated appliances include a range cooker, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, while the adjoining family area provides a softer, more relaxed space with further doors opening directly onto the garden.

Beyond, an additional reception room offers valuable flexibility as a playroom, games room or teenage retreat, complete with a fireplace and broad bay window overlooking the rear garden.

A separate utility room sits just beyond the kitchen and connects through to a dedicated study, while a cloakroom completes the ground floor accommodation.

Upstairs, five bedrooms are arranged around the first floor landing.

The principal suite is a particularly generous room, centred around a wide bay window echoing the proportions of the sitting room below and complemented by a spacious en suite shower room with twin basins and walk-in rainfall shower.

The remaining bedrooms are all well proportioned and adaptable, four of the five bedrooms being comfortable double rooms, while the smallest is currently arranged as a second study.

A well-appointed family bathroom serves the remaining accommodation. Outside, the gardens are one of the property’s defining features.

Extending to approximately 150ft in length, they unfold as a beautifully mature and deeply private landscape, enclosed by established hedging and richly planted borders that create an atmosphere of calm seclusion.

A wide paved terrace sits immediately beyond the kitchen/dining room, providing a natural setting for outdoor dining and entertaining, before steps descend gently onto the expansive, flat lawn beyond.

It is a wonderfully versatile garden equally suited to energetic family life or quieter summer evenings spent outdoors.

To the front, a private block-paved driveway provides valuable off-street parking - a rarity for period houses so centrally positioned within the town - while mature hedging and climbing roses soften the frontage and reinforce the sense of privacy.

Houses of this calibre rarely become available in such a central position within Wendover.

Combining architectural character, beautifully balanced interiors and exceptional gardens, the house offers a way of living that feels both deeply connected to the town itself and quietly immersed in the surrounding Chiltern landscape.

With London Marylebone accessible by rail and the open countryside moments away, it achieves a balance between town, countryside and family life that is increasingly difficult to find.

Wendover’s highly regarded schools - from primary through to secondary level - are all within easy reach, while the house also falls within catchment for the Aylesbury grammar schools, further reinforcing its appeal as a long-term family home.
