Setting the Scene Shacklewell Green conservation area is a leafy pocket of east London centred around the ancient hamlet of Shacklewell, first recorded in 1490.

Stretching between Dalston and Hackney, today the neighbourhood is defined by its abundant greenery and diverse architectural landscape, developed predominantly from the late 19th century onward.

This well-appointed apartment forms part of a red-brick building within Milton House Mansions, a row of two-storey Edwardian terraces completed in 1907.

Overlooking Shacklewell Lane at the north-east corner of the eponymous village green, it retains many of its original period features, including richly patinated floorboards, fireplaces and a large bay window.

The Grand Tour The building is set back from the street behind a well-maintained front garden. The apartment is approached on foot via a path leading to a private front door.

This opens to a staircase ascending to the living accommodations on the first floor. At the heart of the apartment is an inviting kitchen overlooking the dining room via a serving hatch.

Farmhouse units in a galley configuration are topped with marble work surfaces with an integrated sink. Appliances include a Smeg gas hob and oven, fridge-freezer and dishwasher.

Black-and-white tiles in a simple graphic pattern extend underfoot, and a door provides access to stairs down to the shared garden.

The adjacent dining room is flooded with natural light from two south-facing sash windows, which also capture restorative views of the surrounding greenery.

A cast-iron fireplace warms the space, and hardwood flooring extends underfoot. This room has ample space to be used as a sitting and dining room.

From the landing, steps lead up to the front section of the home. A spacious bay-windowed room is positioned at the front, with views over the leafy front garden.

The current owners have this arranged as a sitting room but it would make an excellent double bedroom. Next door is a serene home office.

Slightly tucked back and overlooking the lateral portion of the garden is a tranquil bedroom with a cast-iron fireplace and fitted storage space in the alcoves.

The bathroom is meticulously finished with white tiled walls and black-and-white chequerboard flooring. It has a shower over the bathtub and traditionally styled fittings.

There are also two substantial attics accessible from the landing, one of which has been fitted out as a photography darkroom by the current owners and comes complete with running water and large plumbed-in darkroom sinks.

The Great Outdoors A south-east facing garden for shared use with the downstairs neighbour is set at the back of the house, and directly accessible from the kitchen via a staircase.

Mainly paved, it has densely planted borders and acts as a calm retreat for relaxing or reading in the warmer season.

Out and About At the heart of Hackney, Shacklewell Lane is brilliantly positioned for easy access to public transport, green spaces, and restaurants.

Neighbourhood favourites on the doorstep include Yoga on The Lane, Oren, Café Melo and the beloved Shacklewell Arms pub.

There is an almost endless choice of dining options within easy reach of the house. Tom’s Pasta, set within Hackney Downs Studios.

The iconic Pembury Tavern, serving excellent craft beers and pizza by Ace Pizza as well as Violet, Wilton Way’s Deli, The Spurstowe Arms, and Teal, all just short stroll away on Wilton Way.

Casa Fofo, along with Mangal II, Uchi, Mambow and Lucky and Joy are also near.

The greenery of Hackney Downs, London Fields (with its heated lido) and Clissold Park are all close at hand, while the wilder open spaces of Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes are only slightly further afield.

The wonderful Dalston Curve Garden, positioned on the site of a disused railway line, is a haven for flowers and wildlife.

Rectory Road overground station is eight minutes away on foot, with the Weaver line reaching Liverpool Street in 16 minutes.

Dalston Kingsland station is a 13-minute walk away, offering direct journeys to Stratford and Richmond via the Mildmay line.

There are also frequent buses connecting to central London in around 40 minutes. Tenure: Share of Freehold / Lease Length: Approx. 983 years remaining / Service Charge: n.a.
